GDR Cycling Challenge

The GDR HOWDI commitee encourages attendees to travel in a sustainable manner. This is why, following the tradition of pioneers (Antoine Reserbat-Plantey, Abderrahim Lamrani, Stéphane Berciaud, Fabien Vialla and Salomé Forel), a cycling challenge will be organized in 2025. Sète is easily accessible by bike through Eurovelo cycle routes 8 and 17.

Group ride starting from Avignon (organizer Antoine Reserbat-Plantey):

Kick off the conference with a unique journey through some of southern France’s most beautiful backcountry. We’ll meet at Avignon TGV station at noon on Saturday, 22/09, then spend the weekend riding along quiet roads through the Gard, Hérault, and the southern edge of the Cévennes, discovering the wild charm of the Causses. The exact route will depend on the weather, but be ready for a full weekend in the saddle — Saturday and Sunday, plus a final leg Monday morning. You’ll need your own well-maintained bike, and enough stamina to enjoy long days of riding through varied terrain.

It’s a great opportunity to disconnect, explore, and arrive at the conference with a fresh perspective. If you’re interested, reach out to arp@crhea.cnrs.fr.

Please note: this ride is organized informally, under our own responsibility, and is not part of the official GDR program.
